Belarus and Cuba discussed prospects for cooperation in health care, biotechnology and agriculture

Healthcare, biotechnology, agriculture and machine building are promising areas of scientific, technical and innovative cooperation for the further expansion of the cooperation with Cuba. This was announced by Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander at the meeting of the joint Belarusian-Cuban Commission for Cooperation in Science and Technology. According to him, at present Belarus and Cuba are implementing the first joint project in the field of biotechnology.

It is expected to obtain highly active strains of bacteria with a wide range of an antagonistic action for the protection of vegetable crops within this project. ‘An important step for intensifying and deepening our cooperation will be the signing of a new executive program of the Belarusian-Cuban scientific, technical and innovative cooperation for 2018-2020 in August, as well as holding a contest of joint scientific and technical projects for 2019-2020,” Alexander Shumilin stressed. He also noted the prospects for a bilateral cooperation in the field of ICT and high technologies. In this regard, it is expected to implement joint projects with the High-Tech Park (HTP). 

The second meeting of the joint Belarusian-Cuban commission for cooperation in the field of science and technology takes place in Minsk on 17- 18 May of this year. The Cuban delegation is headed by Danilo Alonso Maderos, Vice Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment. The first meeting was held in Havana in May 2016.
