Belarus and Austria going to sign agreement on scientific and technical cooperation

Belarus and Austria express mutual interest in the development of scientific, technical and innovation cooperation and the conclusion of a bilateral agreement on the scientific and technical cooperation. The document is scheduled to be signed in the second half of 2019. This was discussed today at the meeting of Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, with Aloisia Vergetter, Ambassador of the Austrian Republic.

‘The conclusion of the agreement will enable us to create a joint commission in the field of science and technology and hold contests for joint fundamental and applied projects in the areas of greatest interest, including from the point of view of commercialization of research results and the creation of high-tech industries,’ Alexander Shumilin said.

It should be noted that Austria is consistently among the top five investors in the Belarusian economy and plays an important role in the modernization of Belarusian enterprises in a number of industries (energy, transport infrastructure, petrochemicals, engineering, wood and metal processing, food industry, construction, environmental protection, etc.).

Currently, the implementation of a number of major investment projects totaling about 400 million USD is being completed in Belarus with the participation of Austrian companies.

Currently, new investment projects are being developed in Belarus with the participation of Austrian companies, such as Lenzing AG (the creation of the production of viscose staple fiber), Telekom Austria AG (the development of 4G / LTE networks and modern digital services), Kronospan (the creation of a new enterprise within the FEZ “Vitebsk” and the expansion of production in the town of Smorgon), ‘Europlast Kunststoffbehälterindustrie GmbH’ (setting up the production of plastic containers) for a total amount of over 500 million USD.
