Chairman of the State Committee on science and technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shumilin took part in the first meeting of the Scientific and technical Council under the Chairman of the Eurasian economic Commission via videoconference. The meeting agenda includes five issues, including prospects for the development of the Eurasian economic integration and scientific and technical cooperation, organization of work of expert groups, development and implementation of interstate programs and innovative projects of the EAEU. By the end of this year, the Council will discuss the draft Interstate program "Integrated system of the EAEU member States for the production and provision of space and geoinformation services based on national sources of remote sensing data". Then there are digital, infrastructure and energy programs, and other comprehensive research projects.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the SCST Alexander Shumilin noted that for the implementation of joint projects and programs, effective tools are needed to support joint initiatives with a clear definition of their funding sources. In this regard, he suggested that the Scientific and technical Council under the Chairman of the Eurasian economic Commission use the positive experience of the Interstate Council for cooperation in science, technology and innovation (IC NTI), which is working on a draft of a new Interstate program for innovative cooperation of the CIS member States until 2030 and consider possible sources and mechanisms for financing inter - country programs.
The Eurasian economic Union is an international organization of regional economic integration that has an international legal personality. The EAEU member States are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
The Eurasian economic Commission is a permanent supranational regulatory body of the Union, which is formed by the Commission Council and the Commission Board. The main tasks of the Commission are to ensure the functioning and development of the Union, as well as to develop proposals in the field of economic integration within the EAEU. Since February 1, 2020, the representative of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich has become the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian economic Commission.
