Belarus and Kaluga region of Russia signed a cooperation program for 2021-2023

Science and technology, mechanical engineering, agro-industrial complex, medicine and health care, ICT, petrochemistry and construction are priority areas of interaction for the coming years for Belarusian and Kaluga enterprises and organizations. This is stated in the new program of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Kaluga region of the Russian region, which was signed following the results of the fifth Working group meeting on cooperation between Belarus and the Kaluga region of Russia. According to the document, it is planned to intensify scientific, technical and interuniversity cooperation, organize the exchange of information in the field of innovations and high technologies in areas of mutual interest. In addition, the parties are expected to participate in the implementation of programs and projects for the renovation of elevator equipment and rolling stock of urban passenger transport in the Kaluga Region, sale of buses to MAZ, electric transport produced by Belkommunmash Holding Management Company, as well as products of Belarusian machine-tool enterprises metalworking, electrical and other industries.

The Kaluga Region is a long-standing and important trade partner of Belarus. In January-September 2020, the trade between Belarus and the Kaluga region amounted to USD 412.2 million. The main export items are metal structures made of ferrous metals, medicines, insulated wires and cables, agricultural products, trucks, etc.

The development of bilateral cooperation is not limited to commodity relations: the parties are implementing a number of investment projects, in particular in the field of construction. By the way, from 2013 to 2020, Belarusian construction organizations in the Kaluga region built more than twenty residential buildings, three schools and four kindergartens. Work continues on the construction of other social infrastructure facilities in Kaluga and the Kaluga Region.

The Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology Alexander Shumilin was appointed for cooperation with the Kaluga region of the Russian Federation. In the Kaluga Region, Deputy Governor Vladimir Popov has been appointed for cooperation with the Republic of Belarus.
