New projects in innovative development program to help fuel regional economy growth in Belarus

New projects, which have been added to the government program on innovative development in 2016-2020 by presidential decree No.254, will help fuel economic growth in the regions, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology, Alexander Shumilin.

Eight new projects in the spheres of healthcare, production sector and agribusiness have been added to the program. They will be implemented in Ivatsevichi, Baranavichi, Barysaw, and other district capitals. They will help accomplish tasks relating to the innovation-driven development of the regions.

An enterprise will be established in Barysaw to make new-generation automobile components, which are compliant with Euro-5, Euro-6 requirements and beyond, for advanced models of cars, commercial vehicles, trucks, agricultural machines, and special-purpose machines. Belwest Company will introduce new robot technologies to make footwear. The Baranavichi-based cotton yarn manufacturer Blakit will embrace new technologies for coating cotton fabrics. Obal Ceramic Plant and the woodworking company Ivatsevichdrev will start making new kinds of products.

Apart from that, a new wing will be built in the national applied science center for cardiology by 2024 for the sake of setting up a hybrid cardiac surgery center. Agribusiness companies – Ptitsefabrika Gorodok and Moloko – will embrace innovative technologies as part of the program, too.

According to Alexander Shumilin, the government program has been amended to ensure quality growth of the regions and bolster the competitive ability of the national economy through implementing innovative projects. The presidential decree is aimed at accelerated development of various branches of the economy, effective investments, at providing assistance with industrialization and innovations, the official said.

A government program on innovative development of the country in 2021-2025 is being drafted. The program is expected to include projects in various spheres starting with digital technologies and mechanical engineering and ending with healthcare and agriculture. The projects will be based primarily on Belarusian R&D products.
