Representatives of the SCST laid flowers at the monument-sculpture of the Grieving mother

Alexander Shumilin, the Chairman of the SCST, noted that the place was chosen symbolically:

In my understanding, the Motherland is associated with the mother. That's why we came to lay flowers here. A mother's grief for her lost sons is the greatest pain, it can't be compared to anything else. After the war, many mothers, unfortunately, did not wait for their children. I am proud that we have preserved all the monuments of those sad events and great feats. To come here on the eve of May 9, to remember the history and heroism of our grandfathers and great — grandfathers, to bow and thank them for their sacrifice-all this is very important.

The head of SCST also said that this action has a special significance for him personally:

We have almost no family in our country that would not be affected by the war. In my family, both grandfathers fought at the front, both were awarded medals"for bravery". My grandmother was a partisan liaison, a scout in the famous partisan detachment of Konstantin Zaslonov. My ancestors forged a Great Victory along with many others. Laying flowers to the sculpture in particular and the may 9 holiday in General for me personally is not just a victory over fascism, but also a memory of my relatives who overcame all difficulties and won.

Alexander Shumilin with great regret drew attention to the fact that many today are trying to rewrite history by dismantling sculptures and monuments in their countries, forgetting about people and their victims. Our country must preserve its memory no matter what:

— In Belarus, we definitely do not forget and will not forget, because the history of the great Patriotic war was largely written on the territory of our country. From the first days of its beginning, it was our heroic people who began to fight fascism. We were not broken even in the most difficult conditions — our grandfathers and great-grandfathers waged a guerrilla war. Our people did not accept it and demonstrated their core. It is important to remember this. Remember our history, because the one who forgets it has no future. We have it. Today we are developing our independent and beautiful country.
